A Message from Our CEO

Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute was formed on April 1, 2008 from the existing inpatient units of our two parent organizations UPMC Pinnacle and Penn State Health.  We are an organization dedicated to promoting recovery from behavioral health illnesses through the provision of high quality care to people across the lifespan.  Our programs and services are designed to meet the needs of individuals, support the critical work of providers, and advance best practices through the use of evidence based models of care, and delivery of the greatest possible value to payers of service.

A Message from Our CEO

PPI is committed to understanding how and why behavioral health illnesses develop and can best be treated.  We partner with the Penn State Health’s Department of Psychiatry for psychiatrists and substance use disorder physicians and serve as the primary training site for residents and fellows in psychiatry from the Department.  As many of our patients have experienced trauma in their lives, our staff have been trained by the United States Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration contracted trainers in providing an organizational culture that supports the delivery of trauma informed care to our patients.

At PPI, we never forget our mission- to serve the community.  Our community is not exempt from the opioid addiction epidemic that is sweeping this country.  PPI has responded by adding outpatient substance use disorder services to our portfolio of services.  These services include outpatient assessment and counseling, evidence based Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid disorders including buprenorphine, methadone, and vivitrol plus an Intensive Outpatient Program.  We plan on adding a co-occurring track to our Adult Partial Hospitalization Program in 2018 to better address the needs of patients with both mental health and substance use disorder diagnoses.

Our compassionate, skilled professional staff members are dedicated to providing the highest level of service to our patients.  All of our successes are the result of their efforts.  We are so proud and grateful to them for their commitment.

Our slogan, “Trusted experience, Compassionate Care” is indicative of our commitment to this community.  We are proud to assist people as they begin and maintain their journey into recovery and wellness.  We are on a quest to become a high reliability organization in behavioral healthcare by focusing on improving individual and community health while achieving national standards of excellence.  The work we do every day is both an important responsibility and a tremendous privilege.
