CAPSTONE Program / First Episode Psychosis

CAPSTONE is a program designed to provide comprehensive treatment and support for young adults ages 16-30 experiencing early psychosis. CAPSTONE is the collaborative effort of multiple agencies: Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI), Case Management Unit (CMU), YWCA of Greater Harrisburg, Penn State Holy Spirit and Merakey.

CAPSTONE is a team approach offering clinical assessment, peer support, treatment and on-going supported employment and education to the individual and their family.

CAPSTONE uses an evidenced based model called NAVIGATE based upon research conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

Who is CAPSTONE for?

  • Current residents of Dauphin, Cumberland or Perry Counties
  • Young adults between the ages of 16-30
  • Persons experiencing their first documented episode of psychosis
  • Individuals and families willing to participate in services

Who are we? Meet the CAPSTONE team

PPI

is a multi-faceted treatment provider in Central Pennsylvania and will provide team leadership, psychiatric services and clinical treatment including Individual Resiliency Training (IRT) and family education services.

CMU

is a case management agency responsible for case management and peer support services to persons enrolled in CAPSTONE.

YWCA

of Greater Harrisburg is a community agency with a diverse service array and will provide supported employment and education.

What to expect from the CAPSTONE program

Once referred, the family will meet with the CAPSTONE team who will explain the program and answer any questions. A comprehensive treatment plan will be created with the family and incorporate feedback from all CAPSTONE team members through shared decision making. This program provides a plan not only for immediate treatment, but for the best steps for recovery in the months and years to come.
