Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute is a young organization dedicated to promoting recovery from behavioral health illnesses through the provision of high quality care to people across the lifespan. Our programs and services are designed to meet the needs of individuals, support the critical work of providers, and advance best practices through the use of evidence based models of care, and delivery of the greatest possible value to payers of service.
PPI is committed to advancing the understanding of how and why behavioral health illnesses develop and can best be treated. We partner with Penn State Health’s Department of Psychiatry for psychiatrists and serve as a key training site for residents and fellows in psychiatry from the Department. As many of our patients have experienced trauma in their lives, our staff have been trained by U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services contracted trainers in providing an organizational culture that supports the delivery of trauma informed care to our patients.
At PPI, we never forget our mission – to serve our community. And, like our community, we are growing and getting stronger. Our new nine bed inpatient Children’s Unit with all private rooms opened in November. February marked the opening of our first opioid use disorder program in cooperation with the Penn State Health Medical Group located in The Rose Garden Medical practice office building down the street from the Polyclinic campus. Thanks to a grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and in partnership with Dauphin County Department of Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities and the Harrisburg Area YWCA our new First Psychosis Outpatient Program will open in March 2017. We expect to open an outpatient alcohol and drug free addiction counseling service in April and an opioid maintenance program over the summer.
We would not be able to do any one of the services described above without our staff. They are compassionate, skilled professionals dedicated to providing the highest level of service to our patients. All of our successes are the result of their efforts on behalf of our patients.
Our slogan, “Trusted experience, Compassionate care”, is indicative of our commitment to this community. We are proud to assist people in beginning their recovery. We are on a quest to become a regional center for behavioral healthcare focused on improving individual and community health while achieving national standards of excellence. The work we do every day is both an important responsibility and a tremendous privilege.
